Programs
Recruiting
International Students
The New Mexico International Educational Consortium
invites international students to apply for studies
at New Mexico colleges and universities. New Mexico offers hundreds
of major fields at all levels of study: Associate, Bachelors, Masters,
and
Doctoral degrees. Our world-class academic programs, student-friendly
campuses, reasonable prices, great climate and recreational and cultural
programs make New Mexico a great place to be a student. Check out the
colleges and universities of New Mexico on this website. Use the links
to admissions offices to get more information or apply for admission.
Promoting
New Mexico to the World
We promote New Mexico’s educational
institutions throughout the world on the internet, through international
advising centers, State Economic Development Offices and other international
recruiting activities. International students bring their talents and
knowledge to our campuses and enhance international and cultural education
for all of our students. In 2004-2005 international students and their
families contributed an estimated $35 million to the New Mexico economy.
Study
Abroad Programs
The NMIEC cooperative agreements mean that a New
Mexico student at any of the member schools can apply to go on
study
abroad programs sponsored by the other schools. This gives opportunities
to study as an exchange student at scores of universities in countries
all over the world, take intensive language courses in other countries,
or participate in many special study abroad opportunities like summer
programs, faculty-led international courses, volunteer or internship
programs. Other NMIEC agreements help students use their financial
aid to participate in study abroad programs and facilitate the transfer
of
credits from international universities back to the students’ home
schools.
Promoting
International Education in New Mexico
NMIEC works closely with its
member institutions,
the New Mexico Commission on Higher Education,
Council of University Presidents, and other state organizations to
increase international awareness and programs on our campuses. We serve
as a clearing
house for international research, faculty exchanges and travel, international
curriculum issues, and special international and intercultural programs
at the member schools. In the past few years NMIEC has sponsored a
number of programs such as a state-wide “Town Meeting on International
Education and Exchange,” a report to the Council of University
Presidents on international research at New Mexico Universities, and
visits to New Mexico by advisors from overseas educational advising centers. |
